Difference Between Oilseeds and Dry Seeds

Depending on the types of seeds planted in our country, the plants from which these seeds grow are used for different purposes. Dried seeds are used directly in the form of vegetables or dry legumes, and oil seeds are grown for different purposes, including vegetable oil and its types. This is the biggest difference when counting the difference between oilseeds and dry seeds.

Different from each other oilseeds production in Turkey together with the oily plant is known to be widespread. Today, the most common and best-known plant as an oilseed is the sunflower. Sunflower oil generates almost 50% of oil production and consumption points in Turkey. The rest are other oil seeds. In addition to this, oil seeds that are different from each other are spread in different areas of the world trade in addition to the spread of the harvest to the domestic market after they are grown and collected in the fields or they are used in meals in the domestic market with their conversion into different forms.

According to dry seeds, oil seeds enter the most important process after harvest. The quality of the oil to be obtained from oilseeds has the same relationship with the importance of these seeds, which need to be kept intact after harvest. The seed should remain dry in an environment without significant temperature and humidity without spoiling.

Otherwise, "fungal" molds that develop on the oil seeds negatively affect the oil's pulp quality after the seed is pulled with cold press machines. At the same time, as the amount of fatty acid increases, these oils also have a negative effect on food.

It is important to store oil seeds after harvest. At the point of producing a quality oil, it is necessary to store the harvest in dry and moisture-free environments, and the storage environment should be stored in a way that creates a moisture-free environment that can be drier, not plastic bags. To improve the oilseed quality, you should try to protect it from the mold.

Oil Seed Storage

Different techniques are used for the storage of oilseeds. The rate of foreign matter in storage should be at most 1%. Just as the humidity should not exceed the critical humidity limit, the critical humidity limit also varies in each oilseed. Two techniques are used for the storage of oilseeds.

First of all, this technique, which we know as a warehouse-piling method, is the storage of oilseeds by direct contact with air. You can create the best storage space with an average length of 20 - 50 meters and 4 - 6 meters of storage.

It is possible to provide air circulation with this method. In this way, you can easily reduce the humidity and manage to deal with problems such as rotting and mold as you wish. It is also important to provide the necessary protection, knowing that pests will enter through windows or ducts for ventilation with the best storage of these crops as you will take visible precautions.

The second known storage method is defined as silo type storage. In this method, the contact of the seed with the air is cut directly. As the warehouse method provides the opposite work, no enzymatic activity of the seeds occurs. Thus, it has air channels to keep high humidity in balance, thanks to both the seeds protected from light and its vertical cylindrical structure.

At the same time, you can supply fresh air with aspirators to make the air more fluid in the environment, and distribute air to reduce the humidity. It may be appropriate to establish a conical base or a carrier structure at the base for seed discharge. It is one of the best ways to prevent light from being affected by air humidity under extremely possible conditions. Likewise, it will be important to choose this method in order to protect it from insects.

There are some disadvantages known in silo storage method over other method. First of all, the most important disadvantage is that it is not possible to take any direct action during the onset of heat. This can cause seed spoilage problems. In fact, it is often not possible to see the spoilage of seeds visually in this process.

Oil seeds can be affected by different factors, causing deterioration. Structural factors come to mind first. Heating of the seed may be a problem due to the ambient temperature. In the face of this problem that causes the seed to rot, an increase in the ambient temperature will cause. In addition, as appropriate temperature and humidity will bring germination with it, the seed in the heated environment will break down the oil and spoil the oil by germination. Unfortunately, this is an important process to keep humidity levels as low as possible.

It is possible to increase the seed quality with regard to storage temperature. As a cool environment is created for this, even a temperature of minus 18 degrees may be enough to keep the seeds alive at times. Humidity will cause damage to the seed and high humidity and high temperature will cause the seed to die. It is also necessary to protect from this and similarly fungi, bacteria, and temperatures that would damage the seed membrane.

OilSeed Properties

Sunflower, soybean, peanut, poppy, olive, sesame, and nuts, world trade also different from each other oleaginous plants, are the most known oilseeds in the domestic market in Turkey. These high-fat oil seeds are heart-friendly thanks to the unsaturated fatty acids they contain. It can be said that it is good for the heart and health, as it is always known for its cholesterol-lowering effect thanks to the nutrients it contains.

Whichever of the oilseeds you prefer, with the vitamin and mineral storage it contains, for the good functioning of the digestive system; It is naturally beneficial to human health in a variety of forms. As it creates a feeling of satiety for a long time, it is also common to use vegetable oils in the skin and hair care, as it is beneficial for health in meals, desserts and outside the kitchen, with its supportive structure in terms of making your blood sugar quite regular. It is possible to say that these oilseeds, which are rich in soluble fiber in this way, are evaluated and used in many subjects.

With the oilseeds that can be consumed at every meal, you can easily benefit from every serving. For example, while consuming oil for your salads in your meals, you can ensure that you have a controlled appetite and benefit from the consumption of olive oil in the morning as olives for breakfast.
